Roland was playing a lot of chess with Jeremy; he was very interested in it and learning new strategies.
He and Jacob were still doing some skating, although the ramp at Fairfield had been burned down, so Jeremy built a ramp for them in the garden. Unfortunately, by the time the ramp was completed the boys were losing interest in their skateboards.
Roland’s oldest brother left home for Cambridge University, and Roland and Jacob went along on the journey to take Jonathan and his possessions there.
